Mia Klein has been Consulting Winemaker for Vine Cliff Winery since the 2012 vintage. She has been involved in producing Vine Cliff wines for the Sweeney Family for the past 5 years. ‘Her serious pursuit of perfection, her attention to detail and her exceptional palate are three good reasons Mia is an essential force of Vine Cliff winemaking,’ says Nell Sweeney.
Mia credits the great vineyards at the Vine Cliff Oakville estate and in Carneros as the key to great winemaking. ‘Vine Cliff gets it right in the vineyard. Soil, climate and exposure are properly balanced and matched to the grapes. Beyond the vineyard, the wine making is centered and focused around creating a wine that is a delicious reflection of the estate itself.’
Mia’s palate got its workout from her early days working in restaurants in Southern California. After completing her degree in enology from UC Davis, Mia’s first winery job was at Chappellet, shadowing Cathy Corison. Her next job at Robert Pepi saw her team up with Tony Soter and the start of her consulting career. Besides Vine Cliff, Mia has been a Winemaking Consultant for Araujo, Dalla Valle, Spottswoode and Viader among others.
