Robert Sweeney

From the vine to the bottle, the winegrowing and winemaking at Vine Cliff Winery comes under the watchful and caring eye of Rob Sweeney. Rob has been involved in making every vintage and varietal produced under the Vine Cliff label. He assumed vineyard management and winemaking responsibilities at the family winery in 1990, bringing a hands-on style and familiarity with the estate that insure that we always meet our singular mandate - to produce the best possible wine every vintage.

As Proprietor, he and Winemaker Rex Smith lead a winemaking team with a devotion to excellence that has always been the hallmark of Vine Cliff wines.

Rex Smith was born and raised on a farm in New Zealand where he first became interested in horticulture at a young age. His interest in, and love of the best the soil can produce led him to his career as a winemaker. For over twenty years, he has influenced the style and quality of wines in Australia, California's Carmel Valley and finally, in the Napa Valley. Rex became winemaker at V ine Cliff in 2001, working closely with Rob Sweeney to develop the winery's signature style. He is a member of the American Society of Enology and Viticulture and the Napa Valley Wine Technical Group.
